Filing closed Monday for South Carolina House and Senate primary races. Five candidates, 3 Republican and 2 Democrat, filed to run in the June 11, primary for the SC Senate Dist. 26 seat.
The SC Senate Dist. 26 seat has been held by Sen. Nikki Setzler since 1976. He is not running for reelection.
The three Republicans who filed to run in the state primary are: Chris Smith, Jason Guerry, and Billy R Oswald.
Dick Harpootlian and Russell Ott have filed to run as Democrats. Harpootlian currently represents Dist. 20 in the SC Senate. Ott represents Dist. 93 in the SC House.
Setzler represented: Aiken, Calhoun, Lexington and Saluda Counties. The district lines have been redrawn and the district now includes parts of Richland County.
