The Cayce-West Columbia Chamber held an informational panel discussion at its Monthly Business Breakfast, Tuesday, at Stone River in West Columbia.

On the panel were: State Rep. Micah Caskey, Trinity Baptist Pastor Eddie Coakley; Cayce City Councilman Phil Carter; and Ashley Gee of SAFE Federal Credit Union.

Carter gave a history of the influence of the C-WC Chamber, including the Chamber’s push to establish the Columbia Metropolitan Airport in Cayce; Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia; Cayce’s Guignard Park and the Lexington County Recreation Commission. He said a post World War II boom resulted in the attraction of several industries to the Cayce-West Columbia area and the Chamber was a part of that effort.

Chamber President and CEO Tim James reminded the packed room that John F. Kennedy said: “A rising tide lifts all boats” and the Chamber’s push for economic development has had an undeniable and positive impact on Cayce, West Columbia, Springdale, South Congaree and Pine Ridge.

Caskey said the Chamber is able to present to him the priorities of local businesses and residents so he can take those issues to other state lawmakers for action.

Gee said that the Chamber is important for her professionally, because it allows interaction with other business owners in order to build positive and friendly relationships.

Coakley said the Chamber supports “business in a Christian manner” and that “we need each other to succeed.” He also said “Tim (James) cares desperately about you as people.” He said another benefit of Chamber fellowship is to “bring light into dark places.”

James encouraged Chamber members to get involved with the many committees the Chamber offers as an investment in the people around you.
