Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died in a vehicle
accident at North Edisto Road and Steedman Road in the Leesville area of Lexington County at
approximately 7:20 p.m. on Saturday.

According to Fisher, Mr. Robert Lawrence Gillespie, 54, of Batesburg-Leesville was traveling
northbound on North Edisto Road when he went off the left side of the roadway in a curve and struck a
tree. Mr. Gillespie was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead due to the
injuries he sustained in the accident.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate
the incident.
