The Lexington County Coroner was called to the North Fork Edisto River near Wagner Highway in the Leesville area of Lexington County at approximately 4 p.m. on Dec. 3. The call was in reference to a body that was found in the river by a kayaker.

The Lexington County Coroner responded and identified the body as that of a missing person out of Barnwell County, Ms. Regina Veronica Arroyo, 56 years old, of Barnwell. Ms. Arroyo was reported missing on Nov. 30.

An autopsy was performed at MUSC in Charleston on Dec. 5, and the results are not being
released until further investigation into the death by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. The
death has been ruled a homicide.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office as well as the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is
continuing to investigate and further information will be released as the investigation continues.
