Brookland-Cayce defeated Gilbert, Friday night 28-21 to win the Region 5-3A championship. The game was played at BC.

The game turned on a Jared Holmes interception early in the third quarter. The game was tied at 14, but the INT stopped the Indians’ drive at the BC 14-yard-line. BC then drove and scored a TD on a run featuring DeShaun Washington to make the score 21-14 with less than 5 minutes in the third quarter.

Gilbert tied the score at 21, but BC quarterback Will Young and Washington were able to sustain a drive and score again to put the Bearcats up, 28-21, and then hold on for the win.
It was Gilbert’s (9-1) first loss of the season. BC finishes the regular season at 8-2. The Bearcats’ playoff game is Nov. 3. Palmetto State Sports Network images – Top play of the game, below:
