Woods fire causing smoke in the Red Bank area of Lexington County
There was smoke in the Red Bank area, Thursday because of a five-acre woods fire.
The Lexington County Fire Service and the South Carolina Forestry Commission responded to the woods fire near Old Orangeburg Road and Platt Springs Road on Wednesday afternoon. The fire was brought under control at that time but crews were called back out to the area Thursday morning after reports of smoldering.
As of 12:30 p.m., Thursday, the scene has been cleared and the fire has been extinguished, but crews expected smoke in the area for the rest of the day. If you see a fire, please call 9-1-1.
Residents have also asked about another woods fire near White Knoll Elementary School. LCFS officials say the two fires are unrelated. Both have been turned over to the South Carolina Forestry Commission and both are under control at this time. Both will continue to produce smoke through the day and into this evening.
