West Columbia introduces fire truck with ceremony
The West Columbia Fire Department held a Push-In Ceremony, Thursday, to officially put its Brand New Engine 402 into service.
Firefighters actually pushed in the fire truck to its bay. It’s a tradition, said West Columbia Mayor Tem Miles that dates back to when non-mechanized fire equipment had to be rolled back in by pushing it. Miles all called the $700,000 fire truck a “very substantial investment.”
He also noted that the West Columbia Fire Department has the best ISO rating possible, which results in lower home insurance rates.
West Columbia Mayor Tem Miles, WCFD Chief Chris Smith, SC Rep. Micah Caskey and the Rev. Kenneth Taylor of Turner Memorial AME Church were on hand to introduce the 2020 Pierce Heavy Duty Rescue Pumper. City of West Columbia photos.
