Shop Local for Mom at West Columbia’s Meeting Street Artisan Market, Art on State Friday – Or get flowers or dine out on Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 14. Fortunately West Columbia’s Meeting Street Artisan Market will be open from 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m., Friday,
May 5, in conjunction with Art on State. Many vendors will be on hand at the market with unique gifts, locally created, for mom. The market will also be open from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday May 6, and on Saturday May 13.
“The Meeting Street Artisan Market is growing weekly,” said Brittany Raven. She manages the market for the City of West Columbia. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to find local and one-of-a-kind items for Mother’s Day. Many vendors will custom make gifts for their customers.”
Bailey Parker is the owner of B.Mac Bakeshop.
“I’ve been a vendor at the Artisan Market for the last year. She is known for her macarons.
“It’s hard to find really good macarons,” Parker said. “Mine are fresh and made from scratch with South Carolina-grown products. One of the favorites is the strawberry macaron. I make the jam filling myself.”
The last time Parker was at Art on State she had her biggest sales day ever. “I sold more at the Art on State Artisan Market, during the Fall Back Fest, than I ever have before,” she said. “It was my biggest event for sales, ever.”
In addition to heavy sales, Parker said the Meeting Street Artisan Market is a lot of fun.
“I meet so many new people and make friends at the market,” she said. “And my customers are a mix of repeat customers and I’ve been able to build a new base of customers, too.”
Reveca Camacho Designs creates jewelry. She is also a regular Meeting Street Artisan Market vendor.
“I can personalize items for you,” said Camacho. “I can make necklaces, bracelets with any message you want for your mom,” she said. “Everything is handmade, too, so it’s unique.”
While B.Mac Bakeshop is a great place for the sweet tooth, Mother’s Day is a big day for florists.
Mother’s Day sales account for the single-best day of the year at Jarrett’s Jungle and Garden Center on Sunset Boulevard. Jackie MaCaulay is the owner of Jarrett’s Jungle.
Red and pink flowers are the most popular colors and hanging baskets are a big seller, too.
Other things for Mother’s Day include potted flowers, along with ferns, ivy and Spanish moss, or green moss.
If you want to take mom out to eat on Mother’s Day Grecian Gardens, also on Sunset Boulevard, is an option. Dining at Grecian Gardens on Mother’s Day is a tradition for many families.
Cafe Strudel on West Columbia’s State Street hosts one of the busiest Sunday brunch crowds in the area. It’s a popular spot for many Mother’s Day celebrants.
