Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died in a construction accident near the 130-mile marker of I-26 eastbound in Lexington County at approximately 11:15 P.M. on Friday.

According to Fisher, Mr. Ramon Ortiz-Medina, 24, of Columbia was pronounced
dead at the scene due to injuries sustained by heavy equipment. An autopsy has been
scheduled to take place at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston on
Monday, April 17, 2023.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
