New mural going up on Building 3 of Brookland on State Street in West Columbia

Estates & Companies, a national award-winning developer, is excited to announce upcoming features and amenities at 4West, the newest addition to Brookland’s mixed-use community located in West Columbia, SC. A new mural will be added to the north facing facade of building 3 along the State Street entrance of the Plaza, shared by both Brookland and 4West.

“We are excited to partner with the extremely talented Brian Tull on his largest mural yet,” said Matt Mundy of Estates & Companies. “Brian is a Nashville based artist, unparalleled in graphic-oriented realism with images rich in unmixed color and bound by hard edges. Brian has an eloquent way of storytelling to allow the imagination to wander, creating its own story. He is the best artist to tell the story of Brookland, West Columbia in its history and vision for the future.”

Work has begun on a larger-than-life mural, created by Brian Tull, a Nashville based artist. Brian visited the area, studied the people, the history, and the stories here, and is using those experiences to translate this narrative through his painting. He draws his inspiration from the past, the present, and all the nostalgia that is found in the area. Learn more about Tull and his work by visiting his website here. The mural will be completed in phases throughout the spring and summer, with the first phase lasting approximately 30 days and wrapping up in early April. The second phase production dates will be announced in an upcoming release.

“It’s a privilege when someone reaches out to me with interest in my artwork,” said Tull. “Estates & Companies saw a painting of mine in Asheville, NC years ago and kept my information all that time, recently reaching out to me for this Brookland mural. Bob and Matt Mundy were very helpful in their abundance of knowledge of the history of the area. I dug deep into the information they gathered and handed to me, as well as other sources.

“The whole theme of the mural came together rather quickly from the very beginning. We wanted it to be about the roots, history, and what built Bookland, SC: Mill workers, mills, mill houses, church, faith, and the river. I contacted illustrator Steve Thomas to design a nostalgic, lithographic feel and collaborated with him on the look we were after. The finished mural will feature a female figure standing tall and proud, her gaze and wonder hopefully inspiring another generation in forward thinking and moving West Columbia.”

Also under construction at 4West are the Outdoor Plaza and the West Steps. These exterior, community-based amenities will bring the live-work-play ethos of the development to life as more outdoor spaces become available for the public to enjoy. Visitors to Brookland and 4West will be able to catch stunning sunsets over the river and into downtown Columbia from the West Steps, and the Outdoor Plaza is gearing up to be a wonderful gathering spot.
