Closed portion of I-77 is scheduled to reopen by Monday, according to SCDOT
The I-77 northbound bridges from the I-26 Interchange to the Bluff Road exit (Exit 5) were closed on Friday, March 24, for repairs. The closing of the bridges has resulted in traffic back-ups on several streets in West Columbia, Columbia, Cayce and Lexington.
The part of I-77 (northbound bridges) closed on March 24 through April 2, is scheduled to reopen by Monday, April 3.
The Southbound bridges will be closed for repairs in late April, according to SCDOT. With the closed portion of interstate, local drivers are instructed by the SCDOT to take local roads and streets as a detour. Interstate drivers are instructed to stay on I-26 and I-20 and get back onto I-77 from I-20.
Nine northbound bridge decks and eight southbound bridge decks will be rehabilitated. Construction activities include the removal of old concrete, pouring new concrete spans, and grinding new concrete to create a smooth driving surface.
The bridge decks on I-77 are near West Columbia, Cayce and Columbia. The southbound and northbound directions will not be closed at the same time. Learn more and plan your detour: http://info2.scdot.org/SCDOTPress/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx…
