Dignitaries turn out for the funeral service of Joe Taylor; West Columbia Mayor Tem Miles is honorary pallbearer
The funeral service for West Columbia businessman and Columbia City Councilman Joe Taylor were held at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia on Thursday.
West Columbia Mayor Tem Miles and Columbia Mayor Daniel Rickenmann were honorary pallbearers for Taylor. So ere Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook and Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott.
Attending the service were: Gov. Henry McMaster and his wife, Peggy, along with former Gov. Mark Sanford, and US Sen. Lindsey Graham. SC Attorney General Alan Wilson and USC football coach Shane also attended.
Taylor was responsible for many redevelopment and building projects in West Columbia. His office was on State Street in a building he renovated for commercial use.
In honor of Taylor, flags outside the S.C. State House were lowered to half-staff Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, Taylor’s family is asking for donations to the newly established JET Fund to provide financial support to amputees seeking prosthetic devices and services.
