The SC Emergency Management Division predicts Hurricane Ian will make landfall on the South Carolina coast as a Category One hurricane. Lexington County should prepare for high wind and large volumes of rain.

Lexington County is under a tropical storm warning and is expected to experience the effects from Tropical Storm Ian including strong winds, heavy rain and potential flooding.

Winds from the storm could move into Lexington County at around 8 a.m. Friday. Ian is expected to weaken Friday night and into Saturday after it passes the coast and moves across the state, according to the SCEMD.

According to the National Weather Service, winds in the eastern part of Lexington County, including West, Columbia, Cayce, Lexington and Springdale could reach speeds of up-to 73 mph. Much of the county could get 3-to-4 inches of rain.

Because of the threat of high winds and possible debris, the City of West Columbia will implement the following closures and cancellations: City Hall will be closed Friday, Sept. 30.
