Linda Bundrick-Brown named to Lexington 2’s Heroes and Heroines Society
A retired Lexington Two educator who is still working to make a difference for students has been recognized with one of the district’s most prestigious awards.
Linda Bundrick-Brown — who officially retired from Brookland-Cayce High School in 2010 but returned to serve as attendance interventionist for her 51st year in education — was named to the Heroes and Heroines Society. She was recognized at the Board of Trustee’s November 19 meeting.
Bundrick-Brown had worked in Lexington Two for 30 years before her official retirement, most of them at Brookland-Cayce High School, serving as an English teacher, guidance counselor, coach, Dean of Girls and senior class advisor, among many roles. She also was an assistant principal at Brookland-Cayce High as well as at Pine Ridge Middle School. Prior to returning home to join Lexington Two, Bundrick-Brown worked at Anderson High School in Anderson, Indiana.
“I think education is an honorable profession at any level or any position. Making students feel loved and important first and then helping them realize they can succeed at their efforts is what it’s all about to me,” said Bundrick-Brown, known affectionately as “Ma Brown.” “I have tried to teach the ‘unteachable’ and love the ‘unlovable.’ I have given all of myself to doing what I love to do, and I hope I’ve made a difference.”
The Heroes and Heroines Society was started in the 1990-91 school year to recognize retired educators who dedicated their lives to service in the classroom, guidance or media center. Bundrick Brown is the 36th honoree chosen for induction into the society representing the “best of the best” in Lexington Two schools.
Though retired, Bundrick-Brown has not quite been ready to leave the classroom.
“I feel I still have much I can contribute to the staff and students of Brookland-Cayce High School,” she said. “I am now dealing with the ‘children of the children,’ and that is an awesome feeling.
“I am a most blessed and thankful lady.”
Bundrick-Brown’s family includes husband Tom Brown; children Rebecca Brown West (Matt Page) and the late Andy Brown; daughter-in-law Ashleigh Brown; and four grandchildren.
