West Columbia is a hotbed of activity. All parts of the city are filled with enterprising new projects. The eight members of West Columbia City Council see the activity in their districts from ground level. Each council member has provided an update for their constituents.

Mike Green – District One – “We have a new doggy daycare in the City, Central Bark, at 2931 Augusta Road. New businesses are still coming into the district, too. Stillwater, a 120-duplex subdivision off of Dreher Road now has a couple of houses built and the project is moving right along.

Trevor Bedell- District Two – “The City of West Columbia is rapidly growing. The city has put procedures in place to make living here and doing business here a wonderful experience.  Please take an opportunity to thank a city employee if you see one. They work hard for all of us. Please get out and visit our many restaurants and businesses.  Also, we have road repair  work scheduled in District Two and a continued focus on improving blighted areas and the revitalization of Triangle City. Please stay safe and have a great fall.”

Casey Hallman – District Three – “There is a new dog park being planned (on Augusta Road, near Lakeview Drive.) City Council has viewed the final draft design of the dog park. City staff is actively seeking grant funds and partnerships to assist with the construction of the park. We are also working with the local elementary schools by having each school design and/or decorate a fire hydrant to be placed throughout the park.”

Joseph Dickey – District Four  – “The Brookland Development has attracted new residents to West Columbia. The project is a success and it’s a nice addition, and easy on the eyes as you cross into the city from the Gervais Street Bridge. Black Rooster (restaurant) has had a positive impact, too. The city-owned free parking lot under Brookand on Court Avenue is another plus. Also, New Brookland Tavern has been renovated. It’s serving brunch and dinner. Savage Craft Ale Works is expected to open in December and the first St. Ann’s Alley homes on Center Street have occupants in them.”

Mickey Pringle – District Five – “Taylor Monteith House of Hope, at the corner of North and Batchelor Streets in District Five of West Columbia is another ministry of Turner Memorial AME Church. It will serve residents as a community hub. Social Services, counseling, rehabilitation, and other resources will be housed in The House of Hope. The Goal is to be operating by the spring. Jimmy Brooks – District Six – “I am excited about the way US 378 (Sunset Boulevard) is looking around Lexington Medical Center. The new Dunkin Donuts and Chipotle are welcome additions. The  beautification around the hospital looks amazing. Also, it will not be long before the Marriott International’s TownPlace Suites at 2915 Sunset Boulevard opens.”

Erin Porter – District Seven – “The residents are having a trunk or treat on the 1100 block of Mohawk Drive on Oct 24, from 1-3.  Also I want to encourage people who want to participate in Halloween trick or treating to please leave on your porch light.  I would like to encourage residents to please shop and eat locally to support our local economy. Also, we will have a community event in December. More details will be released as we move closer to the date.”

David Moye – District Eight – “District Eight property values are up the most they have been in 40 years. Our turn to grow is now. Designated opportunity fund representatives should contact our economic development department for some of the best infill development opportunities in the entire country. We also welcome Savage Craft Brewery and Paul Mitchell Cosmetology School to the Meeting Street District.”
