West Columbia restaurants persevere amid COVID-19

West Columbia, like the rest of the country, has been dealing with the coronavirus crisis since March. The international pandemic has no doubt affected local businesses.

Palate

“It’s still slow,” said Terry Close. She and her husband Bob, own Bricks and Stones Pizza Co. off of US 1 in Woodberry Plaza, West Columbia.

“We have our faithful customers and that’s been good for us.” She said the restaurant follows all mask and sanitization protocols and it has altered its schedule because of the coronavirus.

“We’re open Tuesday and Wednesday, from 4 (p.m.) to 7 (p.m.) for curbside pickup and delivery,” said Close. “And we’re open Thursday, Friday and Saturday,  from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. for dining in.”

Despite being open, Bricks and Stones can only operate at 50 percent of its guest capacity. She said the restaurant stays full with seating for about 40.  Close also said she wants her customers to feel comfortable amid the pandemic.  “We have lots of elderly coming in and we want them to feel safe,” she said.

Palate opened in February at 116 State Street in West Columbia.
“The coronavirus has affected us,” said Levi Whitlock of Palate. He said Palate opened 30 days before the coronavirus lockdown.

“We changed our menu to accommodate more take-out and curbside pickup business,” said Whitlock. He also said the staff at Palate is looking forward to the day when the pandemic is over.

He said Palate will offer a more refined menu in the future when the coronavirus crisis is over.

Grecian Gardens at 2312 Sunset Drive in West Columbia has reopened its dining room. The restaurant is taking every precaution to keep employees and customers as safe as possible, and the staff at Grecian Gardens promises to ensure a safe environment.

Grecian Gardens, since the onslaught of the coronavirus crisis, has added a new drive-thru pickup window. It adds another option to pick up prepaid takeout orders. The drive-thru window was installed to alleviate parking lot traffic and congestion. Curbside pickup is still available. Call 803-794-7552 or use the Grecian Gardens app to place the order.

Dine-in, drive-thru, and curbside takeout are all available during our new hours of operation Sunday-Saturday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Black Rooster remains closed to the general public, but Owner and Chef Kristian Niemi said he and his chefs are offering private dinner packages for up-to eight guests that begin on Black Rooster’s rooftop bar and then move to a Brookland apartment with fantastic views of the Congaree River and the Columbia Skyline.

Niemi said you can personal message Black Rooster on Facebook to set a date and see a menu. Click here for Black Rooster’s Facebook page

Black Rooster also offers a rooftop happy hour, Niemi said, for groups of 20-to-25. Send a personal message on Black Rooster’s Facebook page to set it up.
