The body of a missing teen has been recoverd from the Congaree River, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

The Cayce Department of Public Safety got a call regarding a missing swimmer around 5:47 p.m., Wednesday. A search by boat for the missing swimmer began less than 15 minutes later.

Officers were told that a17-year-old male swimmer was swimming with family near the locks, near the Newman Boat Landing. The swimmer jumped from some rocks. He went into the water but did not resurface.
The teen’s body was recovered shortly after 9:30 p.m.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department dive team, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources, and the Columbia Fire Department assisted the Cayce Department of Public Safety in the search.
