Richland County Coroner Gary Watts released the name of the individual who died in a two-vehicle collision at 12:45 p.m., Friday. The incident occurred at the intersection of Clemson and Ricky Roads in Columbia.

Michael S. Smith, 65, of Bridgecreek Drive, Columbia, was on a motorcycle that collided with another vehicle.

Smith was transported from the scene by Richland County EMS to Prisma Health Richland Memorial Hospital where he died at 1:46 p.m. An autopsy indicated the cause of death was due to blunt trauma of the torso.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office and the SC Highway Patrol are investigating the incident.
