West Columbia, the antique shop mecca, is reopening

Lainie Lewis, State Street Trading, Scott Anderson, Three Rivers Antiques, Margaret and Lauren Causey, Old Mill Antiques, and Ellyn Nester, Again & Again.

West Columbia’s many antique stores are open and ready for business.

“Shopping  for antiques is a hobby for many of my customers,” said Doris Edwards, owner of Attic Fanatic, Fine Consignments, Antique Vintage and Traditional Interiors.

Her shop is in Triangle City, beside the fountain.

As some of the restraints are eased, and retail businesses are allowed to reopen, Edwards said her regulars are coming back in. “We’re seeing some new customers, too.”

Scott and Ruth Anderson own Three Rivers Antiques on Meeting Street, West Columbia. It houses booths for 30 vendors who sell on consignment.
Scott said he reopened his shop on May 2.

“We’re getting about 50 percent of our traffic back,” he said. “The weekdays are slow, but Saturday it was pretty decent.”

Anderson was in his shop Wednesday, as rain fell on the tin roof. It was a perfect day for browsing the military booth in his shop. He said some are doing that.

“My regular customers from out of town have come back, with some new business, too,” Anderson said.

Margaret Causey, owner of Old Mill Antiques on State Street has been in business for 36 years. She reopened May 14, after being closed for safety purposes for more than a month.

The store has everything from vintage jewelry and furniture to china and memorabilia.

“I was glad to see my customers again,” Causey said. “Traffic has been good; good and steady.”

She also said some customers are ready to spend money, instead of just look around.

Ellyn Nester owns Again and Again at 557 Meeting Street. She also has two booths in Three Rivers Antiques. She said a lot of customers, who were probably on lock down at home,  stayed active via the Internet.

“There was a lot of looking on-line,” she said. Nester is glad to share the trends of her business with Anderson and West Columbia’s antique dealers are a close knit group.

“We work together and help each other,” said Edwards. .

The Warehouse SC is beside the Old Mill Antique Mall. It is celebrating its three-year anniversary this month.

“We are open, packed full of new treasures and would love to see you,” the message read on the Facebook page of The Warehouse.

So the layoff is over, and West Columbia’s antique dealers are open and they want to see you. Get out as soon as you can and take advantage of all the interesting, valuable and unique items waiting for you to find.
