Lexington 2 property in Springdale part of district’s long-term plan
From Dawn Kujawa – Lexington 2 Communications Director – Lexington Two has purchased a nearly 27-acre site in Springdale, as it works on a long-range plan for the school district with an eye on expected growth around several municipalities.
The land purchase includes 26.52 acres of contiguous property, 3028-3211 Platt Springs Road, about a half-mile from the intersection of Platt Springs and Wattling roads. NAI Columbia listed the property, which consisted of 12 separate parcels. The asking price was $1.5 million, and the district paid $1.3 million in capital funds. That price was less than the appraised value of the property.
The property will be used in conjunction with a long-range capital improvements plan being developed by district administrators for the next 10-, 20- and 30-plus years, taking into account estimates of continued growth around several municipalities, as well as future needs for schools not replaced as part of the $225 million, voter-approved construction plan.
“Tracts in our school district large enough for schools are extremely difficult to find, particularly as there are efforts to attract new residential and business development,” said Lexington Two Superintendent Dr. William B. James Jr. “We felt fortunate to find this site, and to be able to get it below asking price and appraised value.”
Once the long-range capital improvements plan is finalized and approved by the board, it will be released.
