The West Columbia Police Department were asking motorists to avoid the US Hwy 1 and Watling Rd. area, Saturday. There was a large brush fire in that area and all lanes of US Hwy 1 were shut down. The WCPD reported the highway was closed around 2 p.m. Saturday.

A crew from the West Columbia Fire Department was on the scene, employing large hoses. Several WCPD units were also in the area directing traffic around US 1. Lexington County Fire Services worked the fire, too.
