Richland County Coroner Gary Watts released the name of the individual who died on Sunday, after being struck by a vehicle in a hit and run.

The victim was walking along I-77 North near exit 9 A/B just after 6 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle.

Clyde H. Thompson Jr., 45, of 7648 Garners Ferry Road, Columbia was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy indicated that the cause of death was blunt force trauma.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol continue to investigate this incident and identify the person(s) responsible.
