A West Columbia man died in a two-vehicle crash in Fairfield County, Tuesday.

The man who was killed has been identified as Mark Wakefield, 43, of West Columbia, according to Fairfield County Coroner Chris Hill.

The collision occurred at about 2:15 p.m. at the intersection of S.C. 34 and Smallwood Road in Fairfield County, said Master Trooper David Jones.

Jones said a 2010 Acura SUV was heading west when it crashed into the passenger side of a 2017 Chevrolet van on Smallwood Road. The van was crossing the highway when it was struck. Two drivers were taken to a Richland County hospital, where the driver of the Acura died.

The drivers of both vehicles were wearing seat belts.
The crash is being investigated by the S.C. Highway Patrol.
