Hurricane Dorian is a Category 5 storm, according to the National Hurricane Center. It made landfall on the eastern end of Grand Bahama Island, Sunday.

At 11 p.m. Sunday, the hurricane was about 135 miles east of West Palm Beach, Fla., moving at about 6 mph. with winds at 180 mph.

There are currently no watches or warnings for South Carolina, but Dorian is expected to move into South Carolina Wednesday.

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster on Sunday, announced evacuation orders for parts of eight counties on the coast, beginning noon Monday. Lanes will be reversed on several highways.

It is becoming more likely, said the NHC Sunday, that strong winds and a storm surge will affect South Carolina. Heavy rains and flooding are expected in the southeast United States.

The Carolinas are expected to receive 5 to 10 inches of rain.

Evacuations have been ordered in parts of Colleton, Beaufort, Jasper, Charleston, Dorchester, Berkeley, Horry and Georgetown.
