Brookland-Cayce defeats Airport in rivalry game

BC over AHS, in a close one, 35-32

Brookland-Cayce defeated Airport Friday night at Fort Knox, on the BC campus, by a score of 35-32. Both teams are 4A in Region 5.

It was a game that came down to the last possesion.
The Bearcats got on the board first with nine miniutes left in the first qurater. Will Way ran the ball in for a score, BC converted the 2-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.
Nanders Lawrence answered for the Eagles with a TD reception wth five minutes left in the quarter. Airport failed to convert, and BC held an 8-6 lead.
On their possession, Way scored again for BC, from 14 yards out with 1:30 left in the first quarter. The extra point was good and BC was up 15-6.
The Bearcats got the ball back, and Deontae Baker rushed into the end zone to give BC a 22-6 lead at the nine-minute mark in the second quarter. But Airport came right back, with Lawrence scoring a rushing TD with five minutes left in the half.
BC answered with a Peyton Whitten TD pass to Way and the Bearcats were up 28-12 at the half.

On the Eagles’ initial drive of the third quarter, Bruce Staley rushed in for a TD, to cut BC’s lead to 29-18. Airport failed to convert the extra point. Then Lawrence rushed 27 yards for another Airport TD, to cut BC’s lead to 29-25 with three minutes left in the third quarter.
Baker answered for Brookland-Cayce with a rushing toucdown of his own. BC was up 35-25 with 11:30 left in the fourth quarter.

But the Eagles were relentless. Lawrence scored another TD with five minutes left in the fourth to cut the BC lead to three, at 35-32.

BC was able o sustain a drive, converting on fourth down in the last minute of the game to thwart any chance of another Airport score.
