Property sold for Savage Craft Ale Works in West Columbia’s old City Hall building
The City of West Columbia has the closed the sale of the property for the future Savage Craft Ale Works in West Columbia’s River District area.
The new brewery is scheduled to open in late Spring 2020 in the old Brookland Fire Station/City Hall building located at 430 Center Street, West Columbia. The project ties into West Columbia’s new Interactive Art Park on Meeting Street.
“This is a hallmark day in the continued redevelopment of the State and Meeting Street area. It will provide another quality entity in the continued growth in the River District,” said West Columbia Mayor Bobby Horton.
Savage Craft Ale Works will add to the revitalization of the River District, attracting additional patrons to enjoy the artisan, residential, and recreational offerings, such as the city’s Interactive Art Park and Artisan Market at State and Meeting Streets, the Brookland Development, and the Enabling Park across from the Amphitheater and Riverwalk Park. Savage Craft Ale Works will blend with existing businesses to create a vibrant outdoor community space for visitors and residents.
“I look forward to toasting the future of our city with a Savage Craft Ale next Spring,” said Mayor Pro-Tem Tem Miles.
“We began working on our vision for this historic property in early 2017 and are humbled by how West Columbia officials have embraced our concept,” said a brewery spokesperson. “We look forward to sharing this new experience with our guests and offering the community an authentic, welcoming, and family-friendly destination.”
City Administrator Brian Carter said, “City Council’s extension of the TIF District in the State and Meeting Streets area in 2015 made revitalization in the area possible by funding public improvements supporting local businesses and residents. City Council continues to be visionary by holding standards high while making it easy to do business in West Columbia.”
In addition to the extension of the TIF in 2015, the City of West Columbia adopted an Artisan Manufacturing Ordinance in 2016 designed to boost business opportunities for the region. The addition of artisan manufacturing, including craft breweries, micro-distilleries, craftsmen, artisans, and jewelers, complements the City’s existing business districts along State and Meeting Streets. The City of West Columbia encourages creative entrepreneurs to bring unique and vibrant ideas to the City. Looking toward the future growth of the city, council also created a TIF for the Triangle City district to bring the same revitalization opportunities to that area.
Paying homage to the unique and historic character of the 1925 Fire Station and City Hall and 1906 Jail, the redevelopment of the property preserves the existing buildings and character while promoting an attractive addition to the property.
