Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the person who died in a pedestrian vs. vehicle accident in the 2400 block of Charleston Highway in the Cayce area of Lexington County at approximately 6:03 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to Fisher, Ms. Joyce P. Backman, 91, of Cayce was initially involved in a two-vehicle collision. Ms. Backman and the other vehicle’s driver exited their vehicles and were struck by a third vehicle. Ms. Backman was transported to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead. The other pedestrian was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the third vehicle was not injured and remained on scene.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the City of Cayce Police Department continue to investigate the incident.
