Fifty-one Lexington Two middle and high school students have been selected to the District Honor Orchestra.

Middle school musicians are working with clinician Dr. Morgan Owen, while high schoolers are working with Dr. Gail Barnes. Their work will culminate in a free performance, open to the public, at 5 p.m. February 3 at the Lexington Two Performing Arts Center.

“The District Honor event is a competitive event that gives an opportunity for all orchestra students in the district to collaborate with others in their Lexington Two Orchestra community,” said Jeffrey Chen, who leads Brookland-Cayce High School’s program and works with the District Honor Orchestra program.  “It gives prospective All Region students practice going through an audition process, and allows all students accepted the chance to work with orchestra professionals from across the state. During the year, some students may miss out on specialized orchestra events due to jobs, lack of transportation, or heavy academic workloads. Providing and sponsoring events like the District Honor Orchestra at a district level remedies this by providing this opportunity to every orchestra student in Lexington Two.”
