Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died in a vehicle collision that occurred on Interstate 26 Westbound at Mile Marker 91 shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday.

According to Fisher, Mr. Michael Allen Costner, 48, of Morganton, NC was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the collision.
The van being driven by Mr. Costner was moving at a slow pace due to road construction when it was struck from behind by a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.

Mr. Costner was wearing a seat belt when the collision occurred. Other occupants of the van, as well as a passenger from the other vehicle, were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
