Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher ha released the identity of a man who was found shot inside of his vehicle in the 800 block of Alexander Road in the Cayce area of Lexington County on Monday.

Fisher states that Mr. Jalen Latrell Allen, 22, of Columbia, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead due to multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. An autopsy has been scheduled for 10 A.M. on September 12, 2024, at MUSC in Charleston.

The Cayce Police Department, the State Law Enforcement Division CSI, and the Lexington County
Coroner’s Office continue to investigate this incident.

The City of Cayce released the following information:

The shooting that took place shortly after 4 PM on Monday, at the Alight Apartments, located at 800 Alexander Drive in Cayce, remains an ongoing investigation.

Cayce Police believe the shooting was an isolated incident and does not pose an immediate threat to the residents of Alight Apartments.

The release, from Ashley Hunter, city of Cayce spokesperson corrected “the misconception that Alight Apartments is ‘off-campus student housing.’ Alight Apartments is a privately owned business and does not have a specific affiliation with the University of South Carolina.”
