153 COVID deaths recorded in Lexington County, about 80% in SC had underlying conditions

There have been 153 confirmed COVID deaths in Lexington County since March, according to SC Department of Health and Environmental Control data.

Almost 70% of all COVID deaths in South Carolina occurred in individuals who were age 71 or older. Almost 90 percent of those who died of COVID in the state were age 61 or older.

The week, to date, with the highest number of COVID deaths was the week that ended on July 25. That week 322 deaths were reported by DHEC. The week ending Sept. 19 (Saturday) there were 87 COVID deaths in the state.

There have been 3,212 confirmed COVID deaths in South Carolina as of Sunday. According to DHEC, 78 percent of those who have died had underlying, or pre-existing, conditions.

Of those who died about 36 percent had cardiovascular disease and about 30 percent had diabetes.
