12-year-old held, by Cayce police, in connection to vehicle thefts
The Cayce Department of Public safety notified the public of an incident that led officers to make a connection to recent car thefts in the area.
Officers were alerted to suspicious activity Tuesday night on Haynes Lane, according to the department. While they were checking the area, they located a suspicious vehicle with numerous subjects inside. All occupants ran in different directions out of the vehicle when officers attempted to stop the car. One suspect, a 12-year-old male, was taken into custody, the department reported.
Further investigation determined that the vehicle was recently stolen from a Cayce resident. CDPS said they have reason to believe the subjects and the vehicle were involved in a number of incidents involving the theft of property from vehicles in Cayce and other areas of the Midlands.
Cayce Public Safety is asking all residents, especially those in the Edenwood, Broad Acres and Frink Street areas, to check their vehicles for signs of entry and/or theft. The subjects appeared to be targeting unsecured vehicles, according to the department.
Anyone with a vehicle they believe to have been entered, or anyone who observed any suspicious activity Tuesday night is asked to call the Cayce Department of Public Safety as soon as possible (803-794-0456)
