
12 buildings of Briargate Condos heavily damaged by fire, Irmo Fire assists Columbia Fire Department
Irmo Fire units responded to a two alarm apartment fire with Columbia Fire Department Saturday afternoon. The fire was in an apartment complex on Old Manor Road, visible from Interstate 20.
Columbia Fire Department reported a multi-alarm fire at Briargate Condos.
Three people were taken to the hospital after fire ripped through one of the condo buildings. 3rd Shift crews along with Irmo Fire District arrived on scene minutes before 2:40 p.m.
Due to the extent of the fire officers on the scene called for a 2nd Alarm – dispatching more resources.
Twelve of the buildings 24 units were heavily damaged by fire, smoke and water. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries during the operation and are expected to be okay.
The fire is out at this time and the cause will be investigated by the Richland County Fire Marshal’s Office.
