One person died on the scene and three others were injured Sunday night in a crash involving a pickup and an SUV, 4.1 miles north of Pelion.

The collision happened at approximately 9:18 p.m., according to Cpl. Lena Butler of the SC Highway Patrol.

Butler said a 2017 Toyota Tacoma and a 2007 Saturn Vue were travelling west on S.C. 302 near Pelion. Close to the intersection at Asbury Kneece Lane, the SUV slowed for traffic and was hit in the rear by the truck , according to Butler.

Both vehicles ran off the right side of the road. One of the passengers in the SUV died at the scene, Butler said. Another passenger in the Saturn Vue and both drivers were injured and taken to Lexington Medical Center, according to Butler.
