1 dead after Lexington County crash, coroner identifies victim
A collision on Tuesday resulted in the death of one person, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
OFC Tyler Tidwell of the SCHP said the collision happened outside of Lexington just after 4 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Spool Wheel Road and Spring Hill Road.
The driver of a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro was driving south on Spring Hill Road and the driver of a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling west on Spool Wheel Road. The Camaro was hit by the Tahoe after pulling out at the intersection.
The driver of the Camaro died from injuries suffered in the collision.
Wednesday morning, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the individual who died as a result of the collision as Mr. Lester Jerome Blackwell, III, 52, of Lexington. He was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries. Mr. Blackwell was traveling on Spring Hill Road, stopped at the stop sign, and then proceeded to cross Spool Wheel Road. Blackwell was wearing a seatbelt when the incident occurred. The driver of the other vehicle, who was also wearing a seatbelt, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
