Micah Caskey is assuming nothing.

He won the GOP Primary for S.C. House Seat 89. He would represent Cayce-West Columbia and Springdale, if he can win the General Election, Nov. 8.
Caskey defeated three opponents- including Tem Miles in a June 28 runoff – to be the Republican nominee. It is the House seat held by Republican Kenny Bingham for 16 years, prior to 2016.
“I’m not taking anything for granted,” Caskey said. He faces Democrat Rosamounda “Peggy” Butler and Constitution Party Candidate Robert Lampley in November.
Caskey said to win the primary, he counted on others to put together the campaign that resulted in a win.
“We needed lots of help,” Caskey said. “We got it from lots of friends, and some people I did not know before the campaign. They called and ask if they could help.”
Some of his volunteers may have known Caskey from his time growing up in Springdale. He went to Springdale Elementary School, Fulmer Middle and Airport High School.
Caskey is a former active duty Marine who is now separated from the service. He served two tours in Iraq, and one in Afghanistan. Caskey has a law degree from USC and a masters degree in international business.
He is a prosecutor with the Eleventh Circuit Solicitor’s Office, but he plans to leave that position if he is elected to the S.C. House. Caskey said his most likely move would be to open a private law practice. Life as a House member, he said, would take some getting used to.
“I don’t assume anyone knows who I am,” Caskey said.
But he said he is already getting calls from would-be constituents, and he is slowly edging into a more public profile.
If elected- Caskey said his time as an officer in Afghanistan and his courtroom experience will help him as a representative.
“It helps you focus when you are under stress,” Caskey said of his other jobs.
After Labor Day, Caskey said he will get back on the campaign trail- and start knocking on doors- and talking with voters again. He said he will present himself as if no one knows who he is.
